I’ve been drawing some of the Orange is the New Black ladies in anticipation of the release of Season 3. I’m so excited to binge watch it all! I still have a lot more characters to paint, but I have plenty of space in my sketchbook! :D

Valentino Pre-Fall 2015

I recently shared on Instagram this process picture of a watercolor painting. I fell in love with this gorgeous Valentino dess from the Pre-Fall 2015 collection the minute I saw it, it's the most beautiful and dreamy dress I've ever seen. Since I obviously can't afford it, I thought I might as well paint it. My new motto!

I add a closeup picture of the illustration, because the scanner can't capture the beauty of gold and silver gouache.

Peony

It's starting to feel like spring here, and soon all the flowers will be in bloom. I spent this weekend with my family walking in the sun, eating outside and enjoying every moment. Now, time to go back to work!

Play with me

My cat Maggie loves playing with tin foil balls. This one is painted in sparkly silver gouache in real life, it's a shame the scanner can't show that. Happy Caturday!

Töölönlahti

The other day I shared a progress photo of this piece on Instagram, and here's the final illustration! It's inspired by one of the nicest places I visited in Helsinki last Autumn,Töölönlahti Bay, with it's amazing houses and friendly ducks.

A toothy lady I painted in my sketchbook while testing the White Nights Watercolors I bought as a souvenir in Helsinki. They're super pigmented, I love them!

Been caught stealing

I just came back from a wonderful trip to Finland. I've absolutely fallen in love with Helsinki's architecture, nature, people and food, and now I daydream about living there... September has been a hectic month between work, attending a friend's wedding in Sicily and the Finland trip, and now I have six rolls of film to scan and share. I also Instagrammed the hell out of it all.

Meanwhile, here's a silly illustration of a cookie stealing kitty. Inspired by this.

Selfportrait with cat

As some of you might have noticed, I just gave this blog and my website/facebook/tumblr a makeover. I designed a fun new header and background pattern, and I also made a new "selfie" of me and my kitty Maggie. Hope you enjoy the new design!

Something fishy

 

A couple days ago I posted this photo on Instagram, and here's the final sketch! While I have used both gouache and watercolor a lot, I had never tried mixing both before, and I love the result. Best of both worlds. Also, adding an outline gives me more freedom while painting, because it wraps everything together and lets me embrace imperfections. I see more of this in the future :)

Cooking Club book cover

I recently illustrated this book cover for Simon & Schuster publishing. Unfortunately, they changed their minds in the last moment, but I had lots of fun doing this, I always enjoy the process of working in watercolors. Below there's a quick character study I did in gouache, which kida makes me thing that I like my roughs better, does it happen to anyone? Anyway, I took lots of progress photos that I'll be showing here soon, stay tuned!

Springtime in Paris

Watercolor illustration for the 2013 Snowflake Ball in Canada, a charity ball that raises funds for Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, and Colorectal Cancer. The theme of the Ball is "Springtime in Paris" and that's what I tried to capture in this watercolor.

Fishtail

Trying my new golden gouache paint along with watecolors. The scan doesn't do it justice, it glows and shines and I love it! Also, I kinda want that top she's wearing :)
